Review | TheFaceShop Phytogenic Infinite EX Foundation

Sunday 3 April 2016
I started doing makeup I think around last year, as evidenced in this blog; for base makeup, I started with cushion foundation instead of foundation. The reason is definitely because cushion foundation is much easier to apply than foundation which requires a brush or two or maybe a beauty blender. Well, I never apply anything but skincare using my fingers so I always assume to apply makeup using tools.

So today I'll be doing a review on this product from TheFaceShop which is Photogenic Infinite EX Foundation with SPF20 / PA++ that I got two months ago from a local TheFaceShop store here in Malaysia. This is the first foundation I ever bought from Korean beauty brand.

Product Description:
  • A long-lasting foundation with full coverage, cancels out the appearance of redness, blemishes and visible pores without concealing skin's natural beauty.
  • Minimizes shine while optimizing the moisture balance of the skin.
  • Green Tea Extract and sebum controlling powders helps your makeup to stay fresh even after hours of wear.

Volume: 35ml

Packaging:

The product comes in a simple box coloured in grey and dark brown with simple label and minimal wordings on it. It's a nice design as I do prefer minimal packaging.

There's the Ingredient list printed at the back of the box. It's mentioned in the product description that there's the Green Tea (camellia sinensis) leaf extracts for moisture balance in the skin. This is what I like about Korean makeups, even their foundation is infused with skincare benefits.

I got mine in the shade of NB25. I noticed that this shade is available in Malaysia but not in Korean market. I do hope they're going to expand more in terms of number of shades in the future.

The foundation bottle design is quite similar to the box and unlike some Western foundations, this one in particular comes with a pump which is an excellent feature for me. I usually use 1 or 2 pumps depending on the coverage I want on that day. I should say that this gives a medium to full coverage.

Verdict:

First, let's talk about the long-lastingness of this foundation. On the first application, it's looking great, kind of soothing, it dries to semi-matte finish and on its own, this foundation lasts like 5 to 6 good hours with setting powder (I use Etude House Zero Sebum Drying Powder) then my T-zone area will turn oily (I have normal skin with oily T-zone) and I noticed that this foundation settled in my pores. If I really need to fix makeup, I usually just remove the foundation on affected area with cleansing tissue, wipe the area with tissue to dry and reapply  again and yes, I do place some of the foundation in a small container and bring it with me in my beauty pouch.

I have to say, with pore controlling primer, this foundation do stays a bit longer compare to on its own. I use Etude House Zero Sebum All Day Matte Gel on my T-zone and with minimal touch-up, I can see that my T-zone becomes less oily compare to wearing this foundation alone.

Second, the shade. As I mentioned earlier, I got mine in NB25. I should say that this shade really fits my medium skin with yellow undertone and I'm NC40 in MAC3W2 Cashew in Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, and for cushion foundation, I'm No. 31 in Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control/Whitening (2015), No. 33 Cinnamon in Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control/Whitening (2016) and No. 31 in Innisfree Long Wear Cushion.

Third, as far as the brand claims for this foundation, I would say that the formulation of the product is about 75 to 80% from getting there. True, it does give medium to high coverage, covers the redness, but when it comes to blurring out the visible pores, I should say it really depends on your brushing techniques because it takes me a lot of practice to get the finishing I want.

Final verdict: 4/5. I do love this foundation though the formulation is still halfway there. I noticed that this whole Phytogenic Infinite_EX is actually an upgrade back in late 2015. The previous ones are in green packaging (I definitely prefer the new ones in terms of that) and I do remember seeing them in the store back in 2014 when I was still exploring their skincare.

This foundation is retailed at RM99.90 in local TheFaceShop store in KL Festival shopping mall near by my campus but I got this at 20% off so it's around RM80.

I guess that's all I want to share about this product with you guys. Let me know if you guys tried any Korean foundation or leave your thoughts by commenting down below.

Until next post, annyeong~
